Stephanie Espy, author of the book STEM Gems which focuses on girls and women in STEM, has brought a brilliant light to the disparity in proportion of women in STEM related professions compared to men. STEM Gems follows the lives of over 40 high level STEM professionals from around the world, giving insight into their stories and career paths. Ms. Espy, a Chemical Engineer from MIT and Founder of MathSP, is no stranger to the lack of diversity in STEM professions. She is one of the 19% of women who receive bachelor degrees in engineering and 3% of minority women who receive bachelor degrees in engineering.

One of STEAM Teams’ goals is to increase exposure and access to STEM related instruction to disadvantaged and under served youth.
“Some of our brightest minds reside in the bodies of our females and I sincerely believe if we are to create a more balanced world, it is our duty to empower those who are unheard or don’t have access or even encouragement to pursue STEM careers and study. Stephanie is a great example of how we can start to increase exposure to these portions of the community and we look forward to supporting her movement.”
